What makes the Canadian English Academy different?
Our Programs offer some of the most innovative teaching strategies and curriculum. We teach you the English language and how to be successful in the English-speaking world.

What qualifications do your instructors have?
All of our staff have at least one University Degree and are certified to teach English as a Second Language. The Provincial Government has certified all of our Lead Teachers. Many of our teachers have their Master's Degree and some are presently working on their Master's Degree in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) or are PhD candidates.

How many courses does the Canadian English Academy offer?
We offer 18 different Full and Part Time Courses. We have general courses focusing on reading, writing, listening and speaking. We also have specialized courses ranging from Business English, English in the Workplace to Pronunciation and Conversation courses. We have also designed several technical english language courses for our institutional clients.

Where are the courses offered?
At our Edmonton campus we offer both Full Time and Part Time Courses. We have also worked on contracts internationally in several nations including Cuba, China, and Mexico.

What is the schedule for Full Time Courses?
This will be different for each campus.

Typically, Full Time courses are held Monday to Friday.
Class times are: 9:00 am - 2:00 pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
9:00 am - 12:15 pm on Fridays

What is the schedule for the Part Time Courses?
Class times vary depending on the course. Generally they will be held one or two nights per week from 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm.

Do you have small class sizes?
YES! We have a maximum of 16 students in each class.

Where do your students come from?
Our program attracts students from all over the world including Asia, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and Europe.

Where is your Campus?
We currently have one (1) campus in the Edmonton area. Calgary, Red Deer and Medicine Hat will see the Canadian English Academy opening in September of 2005.

How do I apply to the ESL program at the Canadian English Academy?

  1. Complete our program application form, which is available through our website at www.cea168.com/register.htm
  2. Mail the form along with the 10% deposit of tuition (full time only) to receive the letter of acceptance. The deposit can be paid by a bank draft or check that is made out to the "Canadian English Academy".

How do I apply to the ESL program at the other sites?

What happens after I apply to the program?
After we have received your application form and admission fee, we will send you a letter of acceptance. The letter of acceptance is valid only for the sessions listed in the letter.

Do I have to apply for authorization to study in Canada?
You may not need to obtain student authorization if you plan to study for only one session. Contact the Canadian Embassy or Consulate in your country regarding your study plans. Various documents may be required, including the Letter of Acceptance from CEA or our partner institutions..

How do you determine which class level I should be taking?
You will take a placement test to determine your level of English. The information from this test will be supplied to you. A CEA councilor or one from one of our partner institutions will help you determine the course that is best for you.

Do I need a TOEFL score?
No TOEFL score is required to enter our ESL classes. Regular programs offered through our partner institutions require an assesment exam. This can be the CEA Comprehensive Assessment Package for Speakers of Other Languages (CAPSOL). This is a one and an half hour assessment for which results are available within days. How do I register for class?

Canadian English Academy campus locations contact: ESL@CEA168.com Course fees are accepted prior to the beginning of classes. Tuition payments can be made by cash, cheque, VISA, MasterCard, traveller's cheques or direct debit card.

How much is tuition?
Tuition costs depend on the sessions you attend.
Full Time ESL

One Time Non-Refundable Registration Fee - $30 ($60 with letter of acceptance)

Do I have to buy textbooks?
Yes. You can expect to pay about $40 for our part time textbook and between $80 - $100 for full time textbooks.

Where would I live in Edmonton?
Students tend to live near the campus they are studying at. There are many apartments for rent within walking distance. Homestay is an alternative that many students choose. You may also choose to live in Sherwood Park, which is a suburb 15 minutes east of Edmonton. Sherwood Park is smaller (53,000 people) but accommodation may be a bit more expensive.

Is Edmonton an expensive place to live?
Edmonton is one of the most affordable places to live in Canada. You can expect to pay $1300 per month for accommodations, food, seasonal clothing, transportation and entertainment. See "Cost of Living in Edmonton"

What is the weather like in Edmonton?
Edmonton is one of the sunniest and driest cities in Canada. The warmest months are July and August when the temperature average 23 degrees Celsius. January and February are the coldest months with an average temperature of -15 degrees Celsius.

How do I get to Edmonton?
You can fly to Edmonton from anywhere in the world. Contact travel agencies in your home country to book a flight. You will arrive at the Edmonton International Airport, located 30 km south of the city.

How do I get to Edmonton from the airport?
If you are a registered student of the Canadian English Academy we can arrange to have one of our employees meet you at the airport for a nominal fee. You can also take a Sky Shuttle Bus from the Edmonton International Airport to Edmonton. The Shuttle bus counter is located in the lower level next to the airport information booth. The cost is $14 per person.

Can my children go to school in Edmonton and area?
Children of international students can attend school in either the Edmonton Public School System or the Edmonton Catholic School System. Both school systems have schools located throughout Edmonton. In Sherwood Park there are also Public and Catholic Schools. You must pay an international differential fee.

Do I need visas for family members?
Contact the Canadian Embassy or Consulate in your country for more information.

Cost of Living In Edmonton
In addition to a student's tuition and book fees, the following budget is considered reasonable for a monthly living allowance in Edmonton: Rent $400 to $600 per month Bus Pass $45 per month Utilities $60 per month Telephone $45 per month (basic) Personal Expenses $200 per month Clothing $150 per month Food $200 per month Total $1,300 Cdn. This information is suggested as an estimate only; actual expenses can amount to a larger monthly total, especially during the first few months which involve additional settling-in costs.
